New Administrative Appointments for Nine Women in Higher Education

Quaneshia T. Armstrong has been named senior associate vice president of finance at Grambling State University in Louisiana. She has over two decades of experience in accounting, and operations at both private companies and higher education institutions. Earlier in her career she taught accounting at Grambling State University.

Armstrong holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Grambling State University and an MBA in accounting from Indiana Wesleyan University. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in business administration at the University of Dallas.

Karol Kain Gray has been appointed interim chief financial officer at Howard University in Washington, D.C. With over four decades of higher education administrative experience, she most recently served as senior vice president and chief financial officer at Virginia Commonwealth University. Prevously, she served as vice chancellor for finance and administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Gray holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting from Hofstra University in New York.

Lynda Moore-White has been named assistant dean of interdisciplinary studies at Mississippi State University. She has worked for the university for over two decades, most recently serving as director of the University Academic Advising Center. Earlier in her tenure, she spent 15 years in various positions with Mississippi State University’s Division of Athletics.

Moore-White holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Stetson University in Florida and a master’s degree from Mississippi College. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in human development and family sciences at Mississippi State University.

Anne Buckley has been appointed vice president of marketing and communications at the University of Maryland. Currently, she serves as the inaugural chief communications and marketing officer at the University of California, San Diego. She previously held the same position with the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Buckley is a graduate of the University of New Mexico, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in business.

Tammy J. Samuels has been named associate dean of talent and administration for the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School. Prior to her new role, she served the university as executive director of career and leadership for MBA and alumni programs.

Samuels holds a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University in New Jersey and a master’s degree from Montclair State University. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in organizational change and leadership at the University of Southern California.

Honey Ussery has been appointed associate vice president and institutional equity officer at the University of Oklahoma. For the past nine years, she has served as the assistant director of equal opportunity and regulatory compliance and title IX coordinator at the University of Mississippi.

Ussery is a three-time graduate of the University of Mississippi, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism and English, master’s degree in journalism, and juris doctorate.

Mpoli Simwanza-Johnson has been named general counsel for the Colorado State University Foundation. Currently, she serves as director of legal affairs at the University of Wisconsin Foundation. Before her current role, she served as assistant attorney general for the Civil Litigation Unit within the State of Wisconsin’s Department of Justice.

Simwanza-Johnson received her juris doctorate from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

Corinne Guimont has been selected to lead Virginia Tech Publishing, the university’s digital-first open access publisher. She currently serves the university as the associate director of publishing and digital scholarship.

Guimont holds a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature from Michigan State University and a master of library and information sciences degree in digital preservation and archives from the University of Michigan.

Gloria Monroe has been appointed director of the Small Business and Technology Development Center at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Since 2017, she has served the center as a general business counselor. She previously worked for IBM prior to joining the UNC Wilmington staff.

Monroe holds an MBA from Michigan State University.
