Michele Carter was appointed chancellor of Central Texas College in Killeen. When she takes office on July 1, she will be the first woman and the first African American to lead the college.
Central Texas College is a two-year public college with enrollments of nearly 9,000 students. Women make up 58 percent of the student body.
“I personally understand the obstacles many students face,” Dr. Carter said. “I am dedicated to making education accessible and equitable so all students can experience a clear pathway into the workforce and a better life for them and their families.”
Dr. Carter began her career at Central Texas College 32 years ago as a receptionist. Most recently, she has served as deputy chancellor of finance and administration.
Dr. Carter holds an associate degree in general studies from Central Texas College. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Central Texas, an MBA from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, and a doctorate in educational leadership and management from Capella University.
