Pat Pitney Appointed President of the University of Alaska System

Pat Pitney has been elected president of the University of Alaska System. She has served in the role on an interim basis for the past two years.

“I am truly honored and humbled to lead this great university system,” Pitney said. “I am dedicated to continuing to build a strong team with shared governance, with our staff and with each of our universities.”

Before being named interim president, Pitney was the state’s director of the Division of Legislative Finance. She was the former vice chancellor of administration for the University of Alaska Fairbanks and worked at University of Alaska Statewide for 17 years. In all, Pitney spent 23 years with the University of Alaska before leaving to serve as the state budget director in the administration of former Governor Bill Walker.

President Pitney is a graduate of Murray State University in Kentucky. She holds an MBA from the University of Alaska.

The new provosts are Barbara Rodriguez at the University of New Mexico, Bridget Chalk at Manhattan University in New York, and Jaci Lederman at Vincennes University in Indiana. All three women had been serving as their university's interim provost.
