Cathy Young Will Be the Next President of Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia

Cathy Young has been selected as the next president of the Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia. Young currently serves as executive director and senior vice president of Boston Conservatory at Berklee in Massachusetts. She will begin her new job on July 1.

“I am honored and humbled to be elected as the next president of Moore College of Art & Design, and deeply inspired by the opportunity to lead the college through the next phase of its growth and evolution while nurturing and honoring its unmatched legacy, diverse community, and most importantly, the unique education that Moore provides for women and nonbinary students in art and design,” said Young. “I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues and Moore’s creative community, to educate and inspire leaders of the future.”

Moore College of Art and Design enrolls just under 400 students. Women make up the entire undergraduate student body.

Young grew up on a farm in a central Pennsylvania coal mining town. She earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and women’s studies from Harvard University. After 20 years as a working artist, she returned to academia to earn a master of fine arts degree in dance at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She then became a tenured associate professor of dance at Ursinus College in Pennsylvania. In 2011, Young was named dean of the Dance Division at the Boston Conservatory.
