Four Women Who Have Been Appointed to Diversity Positions at Universities

Margie Gill has been named the interim executive director for institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives at Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia. She has been with the university for the past 12 years and is currently an associate professor in the Lynn J. Darby School of Psychology and Adolescent Counseling and assistant clinic director at the Brenau Center for Counseling and Psychological Services.

Dr. Gill holds a master’s degree in clinical counseling psychology from Brenau University and a Ph.D. in counseling and student personnel services from the University of Georgia.

Sherrae Mack was appointed director of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion at Xavier University in Cincinnati. She was a visiting lecturer in Black studies at Cleveland State University and previously was an administrator at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Mack is a graduate of Tennessee State University, where she majored in speech communication. She earned a master’s degree in Africana studies at New York University and a Ph.D. in African and African American studies at Michigan State University.

Renee Madison has been named vice president for equity and inclusion at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, effective October 4. She has been serving as director of human resources for the City of Indianapolis and Marion County, Indiana. Earlier in her career, Madison was the chief human resources officer, senior advisor to the president for diversity and compliance, and Title IX coordinator at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.

Madison is a graduate of DePauw University, where she majored in sociology. She earned a juris doctorate from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.

Katrina Rugless is the inaugural director of diversity within the Office of Student Success at the University of Pikeville in Kentucky. She is the former interim director of international student affairs for Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

Rugless received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Daemen College in Amherst, New York, and a master’s degree in education from Xavier University in Cincinnati.
