Lori Kletzer Appointed Provost at the University of California, Santa Cruz

Lori Kletzer was named provost and executive vice chancellor at the University of California, Sants Cruz. She has served as the interim provost since July 2019.

Dr. Kletzer joined the faculty at the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1992. She is a labor economist. Professor Kletzer’s most recent research focuses on the domestic labor market effects of globalization and policy responses. She has held a number of other administrative positions on the campus including acting and interim dean of the Division of the Arts, vice provost and dean of graduate studies, chair and vice chair of the Academic Senate, and chair of the economics department.

From 2010 to July 2017, Dr. Kletzer was provost and dean of faculty at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Over the course of her time in that role, she grew the faculty by 25 percent while enhancing institutional support for research and teaching through the establishment of a Center for Teaching and Learning.

Professor Kletzer is a graduate of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. She earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
