In Memoriam: Alicia Lawrence, 1983-2020

Alicia Lawrence, deputy dean and executive director of residential life and housing at Barnard College in New York City, died of liver failure on April 16. She was 36 years old. The death was not related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A native of New York City, Lawrence graduated high school from Sacred Heart Academy in New York and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in student counseling from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.

Lawrence joined the staff at Barnard College in 2016. In addition to her duties with residential life and housing, she oversaw the conduct, equity, and Title IX functions of the college, including helping reform the Office of Disability Services into the Center for Accessibility Resources and Disability Services

Earlier, she held student affairs and equity positions at Rutgers University, Montclair State University, and Ohio University.
