Colleges and Universities Appoint 10 Women to Dean Positions

Jennifer Collins has been reappointed as the Judge James Noel Dean of the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She is a professor of law and has served as dean since 2014.

Professor Collins is a cum laude graduate of Yale University where she majored in history. She holds a juris doctorate from Harvard University.

Laura Auricchio has been named dean of Fordham College at Lincoln Center in New York City. She will be the first woman to hold the post. Dr. Auricchio has been serving as vice provost for curriculum and learning and dean within the Schools of Public Engagement at The New School in New York.

Dr. Auricchio is a graduate of Harvard University. She holds a Ph.D. in art history and archaeology from Columbia University.

Gwyneth Price has been named dean of the School of Education at Clarion University in Pennsylvania. She has served as director of the school for the past two years. The school, currently a part of the College of Arts, Education, and Sciences, will become a freestanding entity on July 1, 2019.

Dr. Price is a graduate of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, where she majored in chemistry. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in educational psychology from Pennsylvania State University.

Amy Lauren Fairchild has been named dean of the College of Public Health at Ohio State University. She currently serves as associate vice president for faculty and academic affairs in the Health Science Center and professor in the department of health policy and management at Texas A&M University. She is the author of two books: Searching Eyes: Privacy, the State, and Disease Surveillance in America (University of California Press, 2007) and Science at the Borders: Immigrant Medical Inspection and the Shaping of the Modern Industrial Labor Force (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2003).

Dr. Fairchild is a graduate of the University of Texas. She holds a master’s degree in public health and a doctorate in sociomedical sciences (history) from Columbia University.

Raka Ray has been named dean of the Division of Social Sciences in the College of Letters and Science at the University of California, Berkeley. She is a professor of sociology and South and Southeast studies and chair of university’s department of sociology.

Dr. Ray is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. She holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Diana Martinelli has been named dean of the Reed College of Media at West Virginia University. She is the Widmeyer Professor in Public Relations and has served as the college’s associate dean since 2012.

Dr. Martinelli holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from West Virginia University and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Karen Muncaster has been named dean of the Woods College of Advancing Studies at Boston College. She currently serves as vice president of the Rabb School of Continuing Studies at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Dr. Muncaster is a graduate of Indiana University where she majored in special and elementary education. She holds a master of education degree from Tufts University and a Ph.D. in higher education from Boston College.

Anna Maria Siega-Riz has been named dean of the School of Public Health and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She is currently a professor of nursing and associate dean for research at the University of Virginia School of Nursing.

Dr. Siega-Riz is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she majored in public health. She holds a master’s degree in food and nutrition from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Ph.D. in nutrition and epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Lori Messinger has been named dean of the College of Social Work at the University of Tennessee. She is currently a professor in the School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Dr. Messinger holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a master’s degree in political science both from Rutgers University in New Jersey, and a master of social work degree and a Ph.D. in social work both from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Lisa Dutton has been named dean of health sciences in the Henrietta Schmoll School of Health at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She has been serving in this role on an interim basis and has been a faculty member with the university since 2008.

Dr. Dutton is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she majored in physical therapy. She holds a master’s degree in physical therapy from the Chicago Medical School and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
