Eight Women Who Have Been Appointed to Dean Positions in Higher Education

Haven Lin-Kirk, a professor of art and design in the School of Art and Design at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, has been named dean of the school. She had been serving as vice dean of design. Lin-Kirk has taught at the university of 17 years.

A native of Taiwan, Professor Lin-Kirk is a graduate of California State University Fullerton. She holds a master of fine arts degree from Claremont Graduate University in California.

Donna Sullivan Havens was appointed dean of the M. Louise Fitzpatrick College or Nursing at Villanova University in Pennsylvania. She has been serving as a visiting international scholar in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work at the University of Brisbane in Australia. She spent 10 years on the faculty at the School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Havens is a graduate of Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree in nursing from Villanova University and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland.

Nerita Hughes was appointed dean of business, technology, career programs, and workforce development at North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. She has been serving as director of workforce development for Ramsey County in Minnesota. Earlier in her career, Dr. Hughes was director of professional development and training at North Hennepin Community College.

Dr. Hughes is a graduate of National American University, based in Rapid City, South Dakota. She earned an educational doctorate at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota in Winona.

Kathryn Lively, a professor of sociology at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, will serve a one-year term as interim dean of the college, effective July 1. Professor Lively joined the faculty at Dartmouth in 2002.

Professor Lively is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Onye P. Ozuzu will be the next dean of the College of the Arts at the University of Florida. Since 2015, she has been dean of the School of Fine and Performing Arts at Columbia College in Chicago. Earlier, she was chair of the department of dance at the college.

Professor Ozuzu holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a master of fine arts degree in dance and choreography from Florida State University.

Leslie Hossfeld was named dean of the College of Behavioral, Social, and Health Sciences at Clemson University in South Carolina. She has been serving as a professor and chair of the sociology department at Mississippi State University. Earlier, she was chair of the department of sociology and criminology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Dr. Hossfeld is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She earned a master’s degree at the University of Mississippi and a Ph.D. in sociology at North Carolina State University.

Lenora Campbell was appointed dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. She has served as interim dean since August 2016. Earlier, she was associate dean and professor in the Division of Nursing at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina.

Dr. Campbell is a graduate of Florida A&M University. She earned a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Angela Olinto, the Michelson Distinguished Service Professor in the department of astronomy and astrophysics at the University of Chicago, has been named dean of the Division of Physical Sciences at the university.

Professor Olinto is a graduate of Pontificia Universidade Catolica in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She earned a Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
