Reading Area Community College in Pennsylvania Names Its Next President

Susan Looney, the next president of Reading Area Community CollegeThe board of trustees of Reading Area Community College in Pennsylvania has chosen Susan Looney as the educational institution’s sixth president. She will become the leader of the community college on July 1.

Reading Area Community College enrolls slightly more than 4,000 students, according to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 62 percent of the student body.

Dr. Looney joined the staff of Reading Area Community College in 2014 as dean of instruction before being promoted in 2015 to provost and senior vice president of academic affairs. Earlier Dr. Looney has served as a faculty member and administrator at Mohave Community College in Arizona and at Delaware Technical Community College.

A community college graduate, Dr. Looney went on to earn a bachelor’s degree and an MBA at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. She holds a law degree from Widener University and a doctorate in higher education leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

Dr. Howard joins Spelman from Ohio State University, where she has been serving as dean of the College of Engineering. She is a nationally recognized expert in robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-centered technology.
