In Memoriam: Joan Kain, 1927-2017

Joan KainJoan Kain, who served for 17 years on the biology department faculty at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, died late last month. She was 90 years old.

A native of St. Paul, Kain was a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. She graduated from St. Catherine University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She held master’s degrees from Marquette University, the University of Northern Arizona, the University of Minnesota, and Macalester College.

After serving on the faculty of St. Catherine University, Kain volunteered for the O’Neill Center for Academic Development, a student resource on campus. Her scholarship dealt with historical stone architecture in St. Paul, the Upper Midwest, and in the United Kingdom.
