Two Women Announce They Are Stepping Down as College Presidents

Cynthia A. Zane, president of Hilbert College in Hamburg, New York, announced that she will retire at the end of the current academic year. She has served as president of the college since 2006. The college located just south of Buffalo, enrolls nearly 900 students, according to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 56 percent of the student body.

Before becoming president of Hilbert College, Dr. Zane was the chief academic officer at what is now Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati. Earlier, she served as dean of nursing at the University of Detroit Mercy.

President Zane is a graduate of Saint Xavier University in Chicago, where she majored in nursing. She holds a master’s degree from Rush University in Chicago and an educational doctorate from Northern Illinois University.

Anna D. Weitz, president of Reading Area Community College in Pennsylvania, will also be retiring at the end of the 2017-18 academic year. She has served as the college’s president since 2007. Reading Area Community College enrolls more than 4,100 students. Women make up 62 percent of the student body.

Before becoming president of Reading Area Community College, Dr. Weitz served for five years as president of Pennsylvania Highlands Community College in Johnstown. Earlier, she was vice president for student and community services at Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown, New York.

Dr. Weitz is a graduate of Boston University, where she majored in American history and civilization. She holds a master’s degree from the University at Albany of the State University of New York Systems and a doctorate in counselor education from Pennsylvania State University.
