Study Finds That the 35 Highest-Paid Employees of the University of California Are All Men

An analysis of state records conducted by the Sacramento Bee newspaper found that of the 35 people employed by the University of California System who make more than $1 million annually, all 35 are men. This is true despite the fact that the president of the University of California is a woman – Janet Napolitano. Nearly 400 employees of the University of California have a higher base salary than President Napolitano.

Of the system’s 35 highest paid individuals in 2016, 29 are doctors at the university’s teaching hospitals, Four are football or basketball coaches. One is a hospital administrator and the other is an investment officer.

The four highest paid individuals in the University of California System are the football and men’s basketball coaches at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, Los Angeles. They all make at least $2.7 million.
