Three Women Scholars Hired as Assistant Professors at Princeton University

Princeton University in New Jersey has announced that it has hired eight new assistant professors. Three of the eight new hires are women and all three will have appointments in the English department.

Monica Huerta will join the English department faculty in the fall of 2019 as an assistant professor. She is now a postdoctoral fellow at the university. She is a cultural and literary historian of nineteenth- and twentieth-century America. Dr. Huerta is a graduate of Harvard University. She holds a master’s degree in history from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in history and literature from the University of California, Berkeley.

Christina Leon will join the Princeton faculty this summer as an assistant professor of English. Since 2014, she has been an assistant professor in the College of Liberal Arts at Oregon State University. Dr. Leon’s research is focused on hemispheric American literature with a specialization in Latina/o, Caribbean, and diasporic writing. Dr. Leon holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from the University of Florida and a Ph.D. in comparative literature from Emory University in Atlanta.

Autumn Womack was hired as an assistant professor of African American studies and an assistant professor of English at Princeton University. Since 2013, she has been an assistant professor of English at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Womack is a graduate of George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park and a Ph.D. from Columbia University in New York City.
