Four Women Scholars Announced Their Retirements From Top-Level University Posts

Martha Hill, former dean of the School of Nursing at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, has retired and has been named dean emerita. Dr. Hill joined the faculty at the School of Nursing in 1985 when it became an independent division of the university. She was named interim dean in 2001 and dean in 2002.

Dr. Hill is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University. She holds a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania and a doctorate in behavioral sciences from the School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University.

Colleen Hegranes, executive vice president and provost at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, will retire on July 5 and will hold the title of provost emerita. She joined the staff at the university in 1977 as director of housing.

Dr. Hegranes holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in counseling from Minnesota State University-Moorhead. She earned a doctorate in organizational development from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Amy Meyers, director of the Yale Center for British Art, has announced that she will retire on June 30, 2019. She has served in this post since 2002. Dr. Meyers also serves as the CEO of the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art in London.

Before joining the staff at Yale University, Dr. Meyers was curator of American art at the Henry E. Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California. She holds a Ph.D. in American studies from Yale University.

Margaret Howard, the Law Alumni Association Professor of Law at the Washington and Lee University School of law in Lexington, Virginia, has retired. She joined the faculty in 2001 after teaching on the faculty at the St. Louis University School of Law.

Professor Howard is a graduate of Duke University. She holds a master of social work degree and a law degree from Washington University in St. Louis and a master of law degree from Yale University.
