Katie Vale, the vice president for information and library services at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, died late last month from complications of Crohn’s Disease. She was 51 years old. Dr. Vale also held the title of College Librarian.
Before joining the staff at Bates College, Dr. Vale was director of digital learning at the T.H. Chan School of Public Health at Harvard University. She served on the library staff at Harvard from 2008 to 2015. Earlier, she held various library positions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She worked at MIT for 16 years.
Dr. Vale was a graduate of Brown University, where she double majored in cognitive science and anthropology/archaeology. She held a master’s degree in education and a doctorate in educational media and technology from Boston University.
