Two Universities Name Women to Positions as Provost

Dr. Patricia Pierce Ramsey - Lincoln UniversityPatricia Pierce Ramsey was named provost at The Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, effective July 1. Dr. Ramsey has been serving as a professor and chair of the department of natural sciences at Bowie State University in Maryland.

Dr. Ramsey has served as provost and vice president for academic affairs and interim president during her 11-year career at Bowie State University. Earlier, she was vice president for academic affairs at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Professor Ramsey is a graduate of Norfolk State University in Virginia, where she majored in biology education. She holds a master’s degree in botany from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and a master’s degree in biology from Harvard University. Dr. Ramsey earned a Ph.D. in biology from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

leslie-carverLeslie Carver was named provost at Thurgood Marshall College, one of six undergraduate colleges at the University of California, San Diego. Students at the college focus on “scholarship, social responsibility and the belief that a liberal arts education must include an understanding of [one’s] role in society.”

Dr. Carver joined the faculty at the University of California, San Diego in 2001 and is a professor of psychology. For 14 years, she served as the director of the Developmental Cognitive and Social Neuroscience Laboratory. Her research focuses on the neurological processes of cognitive and social developmental change in the transition from infancy to the early toddler years.

Caroline Attardo Genco Named the First Woman President of the University at Buffalo

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
