University of Nebraska-Lincoln Promotes Nine Women to Full Professor

unl_logoThe University of Nebraska-Lincoln has announced that 28 faculty members have been promoted to the rank of full professor. Of these 28 promotions, nine or 32 percent, went to women. Below are brief biographies of the nine women promoted to full professor at the university.

Shireen Adenwalla was promoted to full professor of physics and astronomy. Dr. Adenwalla is a graduate of St. Xavier’s College of Bombay University in India. She holds a Ph.D. in physics from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Kathleen Anderson was named full professor of animal science. She is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and holds a master’s degree from Texas A&M University. Professor Anderson earned her Ph.D. in animal science at Kansas State University.

Myra Cohen was appointed full professor of computer science and engineering. Professor Cohen is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Vermont and a Ph.D. from the University of Auckland in New Zealand.

Jody Koenig Kellas is a new full professor of communications studies at the University of Nebraska. She joined the faculty at the university in 2004. Dr. Kellas is a graduate of Northwestern University and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in speech communication from the University of Washington.

Jennifer Ryan was named professor of management. Her area of expertise is supply chain management. Dr. Ryan is a graduate of Dartmouth College, where she majored in mathematics. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in industrial engineering and management services from Northwestern University.

Loukia Sarroub was promoted to professor of teaching, learning, and teacher education. She has served on the university’s faculty since 2001. Professor Sarroub is a graduate of the University of Chicago and holds a Ph.D. from Michigan State University.

Marjorie Shelley is a new full professor of accountancy. She joined the faculty at the University of Nebraska in 2013 after teaching at Texas A&M University. Dr. Shelley holds a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the University of Missouri. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of Texas.

Amy Struthers was appointed a full professor of journalism and mass communication. She joined the faculty in 2003 after working as a marketing professional for IBM. Professor Struthers holds a bachelor’s degree in English, French, and comparative literature and a master’s degree in French from the University of Nebraska.

Yan Ruth Xia was named a full professor of youth and family studies at the university. She is a graduate of Hebei University in China and holds a master’s degree in English from South China Normal University. Professor Xia earned a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in family and consumer science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
