Four Women Scholars Honored With Prestigious Awards

BrodleyCarla E. Brodley, dean of the College of Computer and Information Science at Northeastern University in Boston, received the Harrold and Notkin Research and Graduate Mentoring Award from the National Center for Women and Information Technology. Dr. Brodley was honored for outstanding research and excellence in graduate mentoring. Dr. Brodley came to Northeastern in 2014. Earlier, she was a professor of computer science at Tufts University.

Dr. Brodley holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from McGill University in Montreal. She earned a Ph.D. in computer science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

payanJanice Payan, a professor of marketing at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, has been selected to receive the 2016 Louis W. Stern Award from the American Marketing Association. She is being honored for her research on supply chain management.

Professor Payan is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder. She holds an MBA and a master of public administration degree from the University of Colorado at Denver and a Ph.D. in marketing from the University of Wisconsin.

Hayhoe-Katharine-medKatharine Hayhoe, an associate professor in the department of political science and director of the Climate Science Center at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, has been chosen to receive the Friend of the Planet Award from the National Center for Science Education.

Dr. Hayhoe is a graduate of the University of Toronto. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in atmospheric science from the University of Illinois.

BrauseCaryn Brause, an assistant professor of architecture at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst received the 2016 Practice and Leadership Award from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and the American Institute of Architects.

Brause is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and holds a master of architecture degree from the University of Virginia.
