Marjorie Hass Is the New Leader of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities

Marjorie Hass, president of Austin College in Sherman, Texas, was recently elected as chair of the board of directors of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU). The association, which was founded in 1976, represents more than 1,000 private, nonprofit colleges and universities nationwide.
Upon her election as chair of the NAICU, Dr. Hass stated that “NAICU’s mission of ensuring that students can access high quality education is vital. An educated citizenry drives democracy and strong economic growth. I am pleased to be able to work with my fellow college presidents from across the country in support of these values.”
Dr. Hass became the fifteenth president of Austin College in 2009. The liberal arts educational institution enrolls about 1,300 students. Women make up 52 percent of the undergraduate student body.
Before becoming president of Austin College, Dr. Hass served as provost at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She joined the faculty at Muhlenberg in 1993. Dr. Hass holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in philosophy, all from the University of Illinois, Urbana‐Champaign.
