North Carolina State University in Raleigh has announced a field of three finalists for the position of dean of the College of Education. All three candidates will have visited the North Carolina State campus by the end of the month for interviews and public forums. Two of the three candidates are women.
Mary Ann Danowitz is a professor of higher education at North Carolina State University and has been serving as interim dean of the College of Education. She joined the faculty at the university in 2012. She has served on the faculty at the University of Denver, Ohio State University, and the College of William and Mary. Dr. Danowitz holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and an educational doctorate from Pennsylvania State University. She also earned a master’s degree in student personnel services from the University of Miami.
Carole G. Basile is a professor and dean of the College of Education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She has served in these roles since 2011. Dr. Basile served on the faculty at the University of Colorado at Denver from 1999 to 2011. Earlier, she was a clinical assistant professor at the University of Houston. Dr. Basile holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in counselor education from Pennsylvania State University. She earned an educational doctorate at the University of Houston.
A longtime law school faculty member, Magill served as the ninth president of the University of Pennsylvania from the summer of 2022 until her resignation in December 2023. She is slated to become the next dean of the Georgetown University Law Center on August 1.
Debra Mollen of Texas Woman's University has been named president of the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs. Sharon Oliver of North Carolina Central University was elected national chair of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.
The award recognizes exceptional early- to mid-career women researchers in technology (including science, engineering and mathematics), who through their research are driving a positive impact on society and the planet. The winners are Xiwen Gong and Zhen Xu of the University of Michigan and Ellen Roche of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
