Beverly Ann Chin, chair of the English department at the University of Montana, has been selected to receive the Richard W. Halle Award for Outstanding Middle Level Educator from the National Council of Teachers of English. She will be honored at the council’s annual convention in Minneapolis this November. Dr. Chin is a former president of the NCTE.
Professor Chin holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Florida State University. She earned a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Arkansas.
Stephanie Simmons Zuilkowski, a researcher at the Learning Systems Institute at Florida State University, received the Early Stage Career Research Prize from the British Journal of Educational Psychology. She was honored for her paper on malaria prevention in Gambia.
Dr. Zuilkowski is a graduate of Wellesley College in Massachusetts. She earned a master’s degree in education and an educational doctorate from Harvard University.
Candice L. Odgers, and associate professor and the associate director of the Center for Child & Family Policy at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, received the 2015 Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology in the Public Interest from the American Psychological Association.
Dr. Odgers holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of Virginia.
Darcia F. Narvaez, a professor of psychology at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, received the 2015 William James Book Award from the American Psychological Association. She was honored for her book Neurobiology and the Development of Human Morality: Evolution, Culture and Wisdom (W.W. Norton, 2014).
Dr. Narvaez joined the faculty at the University of Notre Dame in 2000. She is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Professor Narvaez earned a master of divinity degree from Luther Northwestern Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Minnesota.
Sandra D. Lane, the Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence and a professor of public health and anthropology at Syracuse University in New York, was selected to receive the 2015 Henrik L. Blum Award for Excellence in Health Policy from the American Public Health Association. She will be honored at the association’s annual meeting this November.
Dr. Lane holds a bachelor’s degree in North African studies, a master’s degree in anthropology and a master of public health degree, all from the University of California, Berkeley. She earned a Ph.D. in medical anthropology from the University of California, San Francisco.
Heather J. Conrad, an associate professor of prosthodontists and director of the Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontists at the University of Minnesota, will be honored with the Educator of the Year Award from the American College of Prosthodontists.
Dr. Conrad earned a doctor of dental medicine degree at the University Saskatchewan. She also holds a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota.
Katherine C. Hendrix, professor of communication at the University of Memphis in Tennessee, will be presented with the Donald H. Ecroyd Award for Outstanding Teaching in Higher Education from the National Communication Association. She will receive the award in Las Vegas this November.
Dr. Hendrix is a graduate of California State University, Fresno. She earned a master’s degree in rhetoric from the University of California, Davis and a Ph.D. in communication at the University of Washington.
