Three Women Scholars Names to Dean Positions

marybrennerMary Betsy Brenner was named co-dean of The Gervitz School at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Professor Brenner served as senior associate dean for the 2014-15 academic year. She is the former chair of the department of education and joined the faculty in 1991 after teaching at the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Brenner is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where she majored in social relations. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of California, Irvine.

Kathrin-EngischKathrin Engisch was appointed interim dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Engisch is an associate professor of neuroscience, cell biology, and physiology at the university. Since 2012, she has served as associate dean for undergraduate education and outreach.

Dr. Engisch has taught at Wright State University for more than a decade. She holds a Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis.

Ellen Davis, the Amos Ragan Kearns Distinguished Professor of Bible and Practical Theology was named interim dean of Duke Divinity School. She will serve as dean for the 2015-16 academic year. Professor Davis joined the faculty at Duke University in 2001.

Professor Davis is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. She holds a master of divinity degree from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley and a Ph.D. from Yale University.

On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
