Ona Faye-Petersen Elected to Lead the Society of Pediatric Pathology

faye_PetersonOna Faye-Petersen was named president-elect of the Society for Pediatric Pathology. The Society for Pediatric Pathology, founded in 1965, is an educational and scientific organization of physicians and scientists in the field. Over 500 members of the society practice in more than 60 children’s hospitals and university hospitals in the United States, Canada and throughout the world.

Dr. Faye-Petersen is a professor of pathology and a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She conducts postmortem examinations of stillborn and infant deaths, as well as placental evaluations to help identify the causes of pregnancy loss, fetal growth restriction and maldevelopment, and neonatal complications.

Professor Faye-Petersen holds a bachelor’s degree and a medical degree from the University of Colorado. She completed residency training at the Denver Presbyterian Hospital and later completed postdoctoral training in surgical pathology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and pediatric pathology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.
