Three Women Awarded Tenure at Middlebury College in Vermont

MiddleburyMiddlebury College, the highly rated liberal arts institution in Vermont, has announced the promotion of three women to the rank of associate professor. All three women were granted tenure.

Svea Closser was promoted to associate professor of sociology and anthropology. She is the author of Chasing Polio in Pakistan: Why the World’s Largest Public Health Initiative Might Fail (Vanderbilt University Press, 2010). Dr. Closser is a graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, California. She holds a master of public health degree and a Ph.D. in medical anthropology from Emory University in Atlanta.

Florence Feiereisen was named associate professor of German. She joined the faculty at Middlebury College in 2007. She is the co-editor of From Weimar to Christiania: German and Scandinavian Studies in Context (Cambridge Scholars Press, 2007) and Germany in the Loud Twentieth Century (Oxford University Press, 2012). Dr. Feiereisen holds a master’s degree from Ruprecht-Karis Universitat in Heidelberg, Germany. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Rebecca Tiger was appointed associate professor of sociology and anthropology. She is the author of Judging Addicts: Drug Courts and Coercion in the Justice System (New York University Press, 2012). She is currently working on a second book on heroin addiction. Dr. Tiger is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. She holds a master’s degree in urban studies from the University of New Orleans and a Ph.D. in sociology from the City University of New York.
