Bowdoin College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution in Brunswick, Maine, has announced the appointment of two women to endowed chairs.
Elizabeth A. Stemmler was named the James Stacy Coles Professor of Natural Sciences. Dr. Stemmler has been on the college’s chemistry department faculty since 1988. She recently was awarded a grant to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the nervous system of lobsters.
Dr. Stemmler is a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. She holds a Ph.D. from Indiana University in Bloomington.
Jill Smith was appointed the John S. Osterweis Associate Professor of German. She has been on the Bowdoin College faculty since 2006. Dr. Smith is the author of Berlin Coquette: Prostitution and the New German Woman, 1890-1933 (Cornell University Press, 2013).
Dr. Smith is a graduate of Amherst College in Massachusetts. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Germanic studies from Indiana University.
With more than 30 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Richtermeyer has spent the past three years as executive vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost at Rutgers University-Camden
Cheryl Norman was appointed president of Ridgewater College in Minnesota and Ellen Kennedy was named interim president of Cape Cod Community College in Massachusetts.
Dr. Scarlatta has led the University of Michigan-Dearbon on an interim basis for the past year. Pending approval from the board of regents, she is slated to become the university's permanent leader on May 22.
Nicole Reaves has been serving as executive vice president and chief programs officer at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
The selected candidate should have expertise and experience in theoretical models in labor and public economics as well as in microeconometrics and programming.
