More Accolades for Berkeley’s Jennifer Doudna

jennifer-doudna-thumbJennifer Doudna, the Li Ka Shing Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Structural Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, is sharing the 17th Jacob Heskel Gabbay Award in Biotechnology and Medicine from Brandeis University. She will share the $15,000 prize with Feng Shang of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Emmanuelle Charpentier of the Hannover Medical School in Germany. The trio is being honored for their innovative research in genomic engineering. They developed an inexpensive and effective tool for editing DNA.

Earlier this year Professor Doudna shared the $100,000 Dr. Paul Janssen Award for Biomedical Research given by Johnson & Johnson Inc. She also won the $100,000 Lurie Prize in Biomedical Sciences from the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Doudna is a graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, California. She holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
