University of Florida Wins the Capital One Cup for Women’s Collegiate Sports

The University of Florida finished on top of this year’s rankings for the Capital One Cup, signifying the best overall performance by women’s sports teams in the nation. Women’s teams at Florida accumulated 152 points in the Capital One Cup standings, easily beating our the University of California, Los Angeles, which finished in second place with 110 points. Stanford University, a previous winner of the Capital One Cup was third.

Women’s teams at the University of Florida won national championships in gymnastics and softball. The women’s indoor track team was third in the nation and its women’s outdoor track team was ranked fourth in the U.S. Florida’s women’s swimming and diving team ranked sixth overall in the nation. Other University of Florida women’s teams that finished ranked in the top 10 nationally for their sport and thus winning Capital One Cup points were lacrosse, tennis, and soccer.

The women’s athletics program at the University of Florida will be presented with the Capital One Cup at the ESPY Awards on July 16. In addition the university will receive $200,000 for its scholarship fund.
