Four Women Scholars Are Taking on New University Teaching Positions

Lynn Nottage was named associate professor of playwriting at Columbia University. Nottage served as an adjunct associate professor in the playwriting program at Columbia in 2013 and has been a lecturer at the Yale School of Drama since 2001. She won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her play “Ruined” in 2009.

Nottage is a graduate of Brown University and the Yale School of Drama. In 2007, she was named a MacArthur Fellow.

NewHydeJanet Shibley Hyde was appointed to a Bascom Professorship at the University of Wisconsin. She is a professor of psychology and the Helen Thompson Woolley Professor of women’s and gender studies at the university. She is the author of the undergraduate textbook Understanding Human Sexuality, now in its 11th edition. Professor Hyde has taught at the University of Wisconsin since 1986. Previously, she taught at Denison University and Bowling Green State University, both in Ohio.

Professor Hyde is a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio, where she majored in mathematics. She holds a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.

frebelAnna Frebel has been appointed to the Silverman (1968) Family Career Development Professorship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has been on the faculty at MIT since 2012 as an assistant professor of physics.

Frebel received her Ph.D. from the Australian National University in 2006. Her dissertation was entitled “Abundance Analysis of Bright Metal-Poor Stars from the Hamburg/ESO Survey.”

KRIEGERJanice L. Krieger was named associate professor of advertising and director of the STEM Translational Communication Program in the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida in Gainesville. She was an associate professor of communication at Ohio State University.

Dr. Krieger is a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University, where she majored in speech communication and Spanish. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in communication from Pennsylvania State University.
