Wellesley College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution for women in Massachusetts, has announced that it will be offering courses in Portuguese. The Spanish department at the university is offering an introductory course this fall and an advanced course during the spring semester. Wellesley students are required to take two foreign language courses in order to graduate.
Portuguese is the 15th foreign language in the Wellesley curriculum. The other foreign languages are Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi-Urdu, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Russian, Spanish and Swahili. Portuguese is the sixth most common language in the world.
