In Memoriam: Norma Rees, 1930-2013

ReesNorma Rees, the former president of California State University, East Bay, died at her home in Hayward, California. She was 83 years old.

A native of New York City, Dr. Rees was a graduate of Queens College of the City University of New York system. She held a master’s degree in speech pathology and audiology from Brooklyn College and a Ph.D. in speech from New York University. She was an expert in language acquisition and speech disorders in children.

Dr. Rees taught at Queens College and Hunter College and was director of the doctoral program in speech and hearing sciences at the City University of New York. From 1976 to 1983, Dr. Rees was dean of graduate studies at CUNY.

From 1990 to 2006 she was president of what is now California State University, East Bay. It was formerly California State University, Hayward. She served a two-year term as president of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
