Four Women Appointed to Dean Positions

guydenJanet A. Guyden is the new dean of professional and graduate studies at Grambling State University in Louisiana. She has been on the faculty at the university since 2005. Previously she was dean of admission and interim dean of the College of Education at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.

Dr. Guyden is graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she majored in English. She holds a master’s degree from Worcester State University in Massachusetts and a doctorate in educational leadership from Georgia State University in Atlanta.

Professional PhotographJudith McFetridge-Durdle was named the next dean of the College of Nursing at Florida State University. She currently serves as dean and professor at the Memorial University of Newfoundland and the Labrador School of Nursing. She begins her new duties on December 2.

Dr. McFetridge-Durdle has served on the faculty at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Duke University, the University of Florida, and the University of North Florida. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Dalhousie University and a doctorate in nursing from the University of Florida.

cuddAnn Cudd was promoted to vice provost and dean of undergraduate studies at the University of Kansas. She was associate dean for humanities in the university’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. She is also a University Distinguished Professor of Philosophy.

Professor Cudd joined the faculty at the University of Kansas in 1998. From 2001 to 2008, she was the director of the university’s program in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Dr. Cudd is a graduate of Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and holds a master’s degree in economics and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh.

Vasilatos-YounkenRegina Vasilatos-Younken was named interim dean of the Graduate School at Pennsylvania State University. She has been serving as senior associate dean of the Graduate School. She has served on the Penn State faculty since 1983.

Dr. Vasilatos-Younken is a graduate of the University of Maine. She holds a Ph.D. in animal nutrition from Penn State.

On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
