Salem College Adds Five Women to its Faculty

salemSalem College, a liberal arts educational institution for women in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has announced the hiring of seven new faculty members. Five of the new hires are women.

beesonMelissa Beeson was named an assistant professor of education. She was an instructor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dr. Beeson holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Elon University in North Carolina and a doctorate in teacher education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Katharine Blackwell joins the faculty at Salem College as an assistant professor of psychology. She was a visiting assistant professor of psychology at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. Dr. Blackwell is a graduate of the University of Rochester, where she majored in brain and cognitive sciences. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

DeliseLisa Delise was named an assistant professor of business. She was an instructor at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Dr. Delise is a graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she majored in psychology. She holds a Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Tennessee.

dianeLipsettDiane Lipsett was appointed assistant professor of religion at the college. She was an assistant professor at the Wake Forest University Divinity School. Dr. Lipsett holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Alberta in Edmonton and a Ph.D. in religious studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Metta+SamaMetta Sama was named an assistant professor of creative writing and director of the Center for Women Writers at Salem College. She was a visiting assistant professor at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Dr. Sama is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She holds a master’s degree and a master of fine arts degree from Western Michigan University and a Ph.D. in literature and creative writing from Binghamton University, part of the State University of New York system.
