Jayne Marie Comstock Named President of Winthrop University

ComstockThe board of trustees of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, has named Jayne Marie Comstock as the 128-year-old institution’s tenth president. When she takes office this summer, she will be the second woman to hold the position.

Dr. Comstock is currently serving as director of the Executive Leadership Group at the American Council on Education in Washington. She is on sabbatical leave from her post as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Butler University in Indianapolis. Previously, she has held administrative and/or faculty posts at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas, Saint Louis University, and the University of West Florida in Pensacola.

Dr. Comstock holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Illinois State University and a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Arizona.

Dr. Howard joins Spelman from Ohio State University, where she has been serving as dean of the College of Engineering. She is a nationally recognized expert in robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-centered technology.
