Seven Women in New Administrative Posts in Higher Education

Julie DeGraw was appointed vice president for student life and dean of students at Bluffton University in Bluffton, Ohio. She was dean of counseling, advising, and transfer at the College of Lake County in Illinois.

Dr. DeGraw is a graduate of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She holds a master’s degree in counseling from Michigan State University and a second master’s degree and an educational doctorate from the University of Michigan.

Mary Tileston Wagner was promoted to director of undergraduate admissions at the University of South Carolina. Since 2008, she has served as the senior associate director of undergraduate admissions at the university.

Dr. Wagner is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of South Carolina. She earned a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University and an educational doctorate from the University of South Carolina.

Melissa Jordan Love is the inaugural full-time academic curator at the Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia. The new position was funded by a three-year, $315,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Dr. Love recently completed her Ph.D. in art history at Columbia University where her research focused on medieval art and architecture. She is a graduate of Wellesley College, where she double-majored in art history and economics.

Dorothy Teegarden was appointed associate dean for research and graduate programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She is a professor of nutrition science at Purdue. Her research focuses on the use of vitamin D in preventing cancer.

Dr. Teegarden is a graduate of Antioch College and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.

Nancy G. Guerra was named associate provost for international programs at the University of Delaware. She joined the university faculty in 2011 from the University of California at Riverside, where she was a professor of psychology and associate dean for research in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Professor Guerra is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles. She earned a master’s degree at the University of California at Santa Barbara and a Ph.D. in psychology and human development from Harvard University.

Courtney Leon was appointed director of programs for the Institute for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership at the University of Memphis. Since 2008, she has served as grants and communications manager for the Hyde Family Foundations.

Leon is a graduate of Ohio State University, where she majored in women’s studies.

Amy Farmer was named interim co-chair of the global engagement office in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Dr. Farmer holds the Margaret Gerig and R.S. Martin Jr. Chair in Business at the university.

Professor Farmer is a graduate of Purdue University and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in economics from Duke University.
