In Memoriam: Barbara Marie Mack, 1952-2012

Barbara Mack, an associate professor at the Greenlee School of Journalism at Iowa State University, died in her sleep at her home after a sudden illness. She was 59 years old.

A native of Des Moines, she was a 1974 graduate if Iowa State University. She then earned a law degree at Drake University. She began her career in journalism as a copy editor for the Des Moines Register and Tribune. Later she served as a reporter and eventually was the paper’s general counsel.

Professor Mack joined the Iowa State faculty in 1986. She was teaching four classes this semester and was scheduled to retire in January.
