Linda Edmonds Turner to Lead Roxbury Community College

The board of trustees of Roxbury Community College in Massachusetts has appointed Linda Edmonds Turner as interim president of the educational institution. Last week, the board announced that Terrence Gomes was stepping down as president after nine years in office.

Dr. Turner is the former president of the Urban College of Boston, a college chartered in 1993 with an enrollment of about 1,200 students. Women make up a large majority of the student body at the Urban College of Boston. Previously, Dr. Turner was vice president and chief marketing officer for Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts.

In 1966, Turner was one of the first six African American women to enroll at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. She holds a bachelor’s degree, an MBA, and a Ph.D. in business administration from Virginia Tech. She also earned a master’s degree at Michigan State University.
