Nergis Mavalvala was appointed professor of physics. Dr. Mavalvala was a professor of physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has taught at MIT since 2002 and was named a full professor in 2009.
Professor Mavalvala is a magna cum laude graduate of Wellesley College. She earned a Ph.D. in physics at MIT.
Catherine M. Cole was named professor of drama. Her appointment begins September 1. She has been serving as professor of theater, dance, and performance studies at the University of California at Berkeley. From 1997 to 2007, she taught at the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Professor Cole is a graduate of Occidental College in Los Angeles. She holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
Kathleen Sakamoto was named professor of pediatrics. She has been serving as professor and vice chair of the department of pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of California at Los Angeles.
Dr. Sakamoto is a graduate of Williams College and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She holds a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology.
