Dr. Green had recently retired from the presidency of Governors State University on March 1. She was the university's sixth and first Black president. Her background in higher education included over three decades of experience as an administrator professor of psychology.
Over a 25-year career in academia, Dr. Peters spent three years at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, and later taught English, linguistics, and women’s studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Dr. Nesule, a native of Latvia, joined the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1963. There she was a co-founder of the women's studies department and won many teaching awards. She retired from teaching in 1996 to concentrate on her writing career.
The researcher found that many of the young women who were raped by their boyfriends had experienced a lot of abuse growing up, which led them to minimize the sexual violence. Additionally, some participants who had been raped noted they had been socialized to believe that forced sex was part of their role as a girlfriend.
Last year, Dr. Green was appointed interim chancellor of the University of Wisconson-Whitewater. At that time she was vice chancellor of student affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Earlier, Dr. Green served as assistant vice president of student affairs at Tennessee State University.

Dr. Mason has been serving as president of Valley City State University, a 1,500-student educational institution west of Fargo, North Dakota. She is a former vice president for student affairs at Fort Hays State University. Dr. Mason has also served as dean of student life at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Since 2013, Dr. Martha Saunders has been serving as provost and executive vice president at the University of West Florida. She is the former chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and the former president of the University of Southern Mississippi.
One of the three finalists for the position is a woman. Lori Ressor is vice president for student affairs at the University of North Dakota. She has served in this position since 2011.
