In Memoriam: Leila Leah Amsel Bronner, 1930-2019
Lelia Bronner was a noted biblical scholar who taught at universities in South Africa and the United States. She died in Los Angeles earlier this month and was buried in Jerusalem.
In Memoriam: Alice Schoenfeld, 1921-2019
A native of Yugoslavia, Professor Schoenfeld made her professional music debut with the Berlin Philharmonic at age 10. She immigrated to the United States with her sister, Eleonore Schoenfeld, in 1952. Both sisters joined the faculty at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music in 1959.
Study Finds Women Are More Productive at Warmer Room Temperatures
The authors found a meaningful relationship between room temperature and how well participants scored on the math and verbal tasks. They believe that their findings suggest temperatures should be raised significantly higher than current standards to increase productivity in mixed-gender workplaces.

University of Southern California Study Examines Gender Gap Among Film Critics
The data shows that 82 percent of all reviewers were men. Women of color are particularly underrepresented. Only 4 percent of all reviewers were women from underrepresented groups. In contrast, some 64 percent of all movie critics are White men and 18 percent are White women.

University of Southern California Report Examines Vast Gender Gap in the Music Industry
The researchers examined the gender of the artists, songwriters, and producers of the 100 most popular songs on the year-end Billboard charts from 2012 to 2017. Women were 22.4 percent of the performing artists, 12.3 percent of the songwriters, and just 2 percent of the producers.
