University of Pennsylvania Study Finds Gender Gap Among High Performing Math Students
The results of the study showed that among the top 500 highest-scoring 9th grade students participating in the American Mathematics Competition, there was a 4.6-to-1 boys to girls ratio. That gap only widens as the students get older.

Study Finds That the Math Gender Gap in Ninth Grade Is Large But It Expands Further As Girls Get Older
The study by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Pennsylvania, found that of the top 5,000 ninth graders in the American Mathematics Competitions, only 30 percent were female. In the top 500, 18 percent were female and in the top 50, 8 percent were female.

In Memoriam: Marta Weigle, 1944-2018
Dr. Weigle joined the faculty at the University of New Mexico in 1972 with joint appointments in English and anthropology. Later she chaired the American studies department. Dr. Weigle joined the anthropology department full time in 1993 and served as department chair from 1995 to 2002.

Mary Ellen Caro has been serving as vice president of enrollment management at Thomas Edison State University in Trenton, New Jersey. She has served on the staff there since 2004. Penn Study Finds That Vast Majority of Intimate Partner Violence Incidents Involve Unmarried Couples
A new study led by Susan B. Sorenson, a professor of social policy and the director of the Evelyn Jacobs Ortner Center on Family Violence at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, found that more than 80 percent of intimate partner violence incidents occur between boyfriends and girlfriends. Only 15 percent of the incidents involved married couples.
Lorraine Sterritt to Be the First Woman President of Saint Michael’s College in Vermont
Since June 2014, Dr. Sterritt has served as president of Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Earlier, she served as dean for administration and as a professor of French literature at Harvard College. A native of Ireland, Dr. Sterritt holds a Ph.D. in French from Princeton University.

Many of the nation’s most selective colleges and universities recently released data on their early decision or early action applicant pools and acceptance decisions. Some of these schools included data on the gender of the students accepted early.
Women Making Progress in Enrollments in MBA Programs
The report finds that women now make up 37.4 percent of the total enrollments at the 51-member business schools affiliated with the Forte Foundation. This is up from 33.4 percent in 2013. Now there are 14 business schools where women make up at least 40 percent of all enrollments. In 2013, there were only two.

Since 2008, Dr. Wyke has been serving as vice chancellor for finance and administration for the University of Maine System. She had served as interim president of the Augusta campus for six months in 2015. Dr. Wyke is the former commissioner of the Department of Administration and Finance for the state of Maine.
Study Finds That Lower Resting Heart Rates of Men Contribute to the Gender Gap in Criminal Activity
It is well known that men are far more likely to participate in criminal activity, particularly violent crime, than women. A new study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania finds that that the lower resting heart rate of men compared to women can explain between 5 and 17 percent of the gender gap in criminal activity.
Study Finds That Pregnant Women Are More Likely to Be Victims of Assault Than Other Women
After examining 45,000 cases of trauma of women of childbearing age at hospitals in Pennsylvania between 2005 and and 2015, the study found that trauma from assaults or accidents affects one in 12 pregnancies.
