This summer, the department of women's and gender studies and the department of comparative race and ethnic studies at Texas Christian University will close and be merged with the department of English. The university cites low enrollment as the reason for this decision.
The scholars who have been named to endowed professorships are Linda Henkel at Fairfield University in Connecticut, Susan Klinedinst at Schreiner University in Texas, Stephanie Boddie at Baylor University in Texas, Bonnie Bassler at Princeton University in New Jeresy, Martha Placeres at Florida Southern College, and Laura Olson at Texas Christian University.
This year, 15 works of fiction authored or edited by 19 writers and poets were awarded an American Book Award. Of these winners, seven are women currently holding faculty appointments at American-based institutions.
Currently director of the School of Teacher Education at Florida State University, Amy S. Thompson received the 2024 Distinguished Service to the Profession Award from the Association of Language Departments, a part of the Modern Language Association.

Currently the president of William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, Elizabeth MacLeod Walls will assume the presidency of Washington & Jefferson College in June.
Dr. Dahlberg is currently provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Texas Christian University. Prior to joining TCU in 2019, Dr. Dahlberg served as dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University. She will become president of the University of Tampa on June 1.
Theresa A. Powell was vice president for student affairs at Temple University in Philadelphia. Dr. Powell came to Temple in 2002 after serving as vice president of student affairs at Western Michigan University.
The four women who have been appointed to endowed positions are Christina Maranci at Harvard University,. Julie E. Bauman at George Washington University Cancer Center in Washington, D.C., Lisa T. Alexander at the Boston College School of Law, and Ashley Franklin at Texas Christian University.
The three women faculty members who have been appointed to endowed chairs are Nicole Uphold at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina, Audrey Sorrells at Texas Chrisitan University in Fort Worth, and Jennifer Tosti-Kharas at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
