In Memoriam: Lena Prewitt, 1931-2024
In 1970, Dr. Prewitt joined the faculty at the University of Alabama as its first-ever Black woman professor. She served the university as an associate professor of business for over two decades prior to taking on academic and administrative leadership positions with Stillman College.
Yolanda Page Selected as the Eighth President of Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Since last fall, Dr. Page has been serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Savannah State University in Georgia. Earlier, she was a professor of English and vice president in the Division of Academic Affairs at Dillard University in New Orleans. Previously, Dr. Page served as dean of arts and sciences at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Two Women College Presidents Have Announced They Are Stepping Down
Cynthia Warrick, president of Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and the first woman to hold the position, has announced that she will retire from the presidency at the end of her current contract term on June 30, 2023. Hilary Link, president of Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, since 2019, has announced today that she is stepping down from her position for personal and professional considerations.
Six Women Who Have Been Named to Dean Positions at Colleges and Universities
Newly appointed to dean positions are Wendy Suzuki at New York University, Claire Gleitman at Ithaca College in New York, Sharon Porterfield at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Amy Hardison Tully at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Paola Sztajn at North Carolina State University, and Staci Simonich at Oregon State University.
Cynthia Warrick Named the Seventh President of Stillman College in Alabama
Dr. Warrick has been serving as interim president since the beginning of the year. In recent years, Dr. Warrick has twice filled the role of interim president at historically Black universities; South Carolina State University and Grambling State University in Louisiana.
Cynthia Warrick to Lead Stillman College in Alabama
Cynthia Warrick will serve as interim president beginning on January 3. She is not considered to be a candidate for the position on a permanent basis. In the past, Dr. Warrick has served as interim president at Grambling State University in Louisiana and South Carolina State University.
