The new deans are Emily Metzgar at Pennsylvania State University, Betsy Becker at the University of South Dakota, Samantha Penney at Hampton University in Virginia, and Kate Klepper at Babson College in Massachusetts.
Mechthild Tegeder of Washington State University, María P. Aranda of the University of Southern California, Andrea Hohmann of Indiana University, and Rupali Chandar of the University of Toledo have all been granted prestigious faculty titles. Professor Karin Öberg was named senior vice provost for faculty at Harvard and Professor Tonya Peeples was appointed a special adviser to the provost at Penn State.
Katherine Macfarlane of Syracuse University is chair of the Association of American Law Schools' section on Women in Legal Education and Tahira Probst was granted the title of Regents Professor at Washington State University. Karen Thole and Judy Schaechter are taking on leadership roles at Pennsylvania State University and the University of Vermont, respectively.
The new deans are Vanessa Vásquez at Alverno College in Milwaukee, Jessica Retrum at Metropolitan State University of Denver, Gwendolyn Lloyd at Pennsylvania State University, Katie Hartman at Ohio University, Sarah Feldner at Marquette University in Milwaukee, and Jennifer Roberts at the University of Kansas.
The appointments are Leslie D. Rose at Xavier University of Louisiana, Carrie Jackson at the University of Arkansas, Audreé Montero at Penn State, Britt Cruz at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, Katie Nash at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, Trazanna Moreno at Prairie View A&M University in Texas, and Danni Piccolo at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Youngblade has been selected to serve as interim provost at Colorado State University, where she has served as dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences since 2019.
The women appointed to endowed positions in academia are Karen Frank at the University at Buffalo, George Washington University's Leandra Godoy at Children's National Hospital, and Beth Johnson at Pennsylvania State University.
“This is a pivotal moment for us all in the legal academy to come together in coalition around academic freedom,” said Professor Conway, dean of Penn State Dickinson Law and the School of International Affairs. “We may disagree on many other things, but we must collectively uphold academic freedom."

Over the past five decades, women's total representation among authors published in the Journal of Biomechanics has increased from 5.5 percent in 1970 to 26.5 percent in 2020, with significant progress made in first and last author representation.
