In Memoriam: Sandee Kay McGlaun, 1969-2021
Dr. McGlaun joined the faculty at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, in 2006 as an associate professor of English and director of the Writing Center. Earlier, she served on the faculty and was director of the Writing Center at what is now the University of North Georgia.

Syracuse University in New York Has Selected Gretchen Ritter as Its Next Provost
Since 2019, Dr. Ritter has been serving as executive dean and vice provost for the College of Arts and Sciences at Ohio State University. In 2013, Dr. Ritter was appointed the 21st dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She was the first woman to hold the position.

In Memoriam: Clara D. Bloomfield, 1942-2020
Dr. Bloomfield, of Ohio State University, was well known for her more than 50 years of groundbreaking research in blood cancers, particularly acute myeloid leukemia. She was the first scientist to prove that adults with acute leukemia, including the elderly, could be cured with chemotherapy.
Barbara Snyder to Serve as President of the Association of American Universities
Barbara R. Snyder, president of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, has been chosen to lead the Association of American Universities. Cheryl Evans Jones Named the 17th President of Paine College in Augusta, Georgia
Dr. Jones first joined the Paine College faculty in 1993 as an assistant professor of psychology. In 2014, she served as Paine’s acting provost and vice president for academic affairs. Dr. Jones has been serving as acting president of Paine College since July.
Ginny Favede Named the Thirteenth President of Wheeling University in West Virginia
Favede has been serving as executive director of the Ohio Valley Construction Employers Council, a not-for-profit association of more than 500 contractors. She is a former county commissioner in West Virginia and has served as chair of the board of trustees of Wheeling University since July. She will step down from that position.

The study, led by a sociologist at Ohio State University, found that women who experienced childhood trauma were more likely than others to have their first child both earlier in life and outside of marriage – and that those factors were associated with poorer health later in life.
