A faculty member at Marshall University since 1997, Dr. Shah serves as senior associate dean for faculty advancement in the university's medical career. Throughout her career, she has conducted extensive research on faculty vitality and retention.
The new deans are Kamala Kiem at Columbia University, Lesley Clack at Mississippi State University-Meridian, Kelly Bradley at Marshall University in West Virginia, Geri Glover at New Mexico Highlands University, and Theresa Hickey at Western Oregon University.
The women named deans are Sharrel Pinto at Belmont University in Nashville, Stacey Lowery Bretz at Ohio Northern University, Kristin Gehsmann at Clemson University in South Carolina, Teresa M. Waters at Augusta University in Georgia, Maria P. Gindhart at Marshall University in West Virginia, Elizabeth McDermott at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, and Tiffany Sippial at the University of Alabama.

Dr. Pamela Alderman served most recently as the dean of the Bert Bradford School of Health Sciences, chair of the department of nursing, and professor of nursing at the University of Charleston in West Virginia. She began her new duties on May 11.
The honorees are Gayle A. Brazeau, a professor and dean of the School of Pharmacy at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, Betty Chewning, a professor of pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Kim L.R. Brouwer, a professor and associate dean of the School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Three women who have been appointed to dean posts, effective this summer are Gayle A. Brazeau at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, Nancy Fahrenwald at Texas A&M University, and Rachel Dunifon at the New York State College of Human Ecology at Cornell University.
Kristi M. Fondren, an associate professor of sociology at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, was named the winner of the Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt Award for Excellence in Recreation and Park Research.
The honorees are Angela Morales of Glendale Community College, Naomi Halas and Kathleen Matthews of Rice University, Maria A. Serrat of Marshall University, Kathleen Lane of the University of Kansas, Carol Tonge Mack of the University of Cincinnati, and Julie M. Goddard of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
Carolyn Peluso Atkins is a professor in the department of speech pathology and audiology at West Virginia University. She wrote the book to build a sense of character and to instill pride in West Virginia among the state's children.
