Joyce Jacobsen was named the winner of the Carolyn Shaw Bell Award, which has been given annually since 1998 to an individual who has furthered the status of women in the economics profession through example, achievements, increasing our understanding of how women can advance in the economics profession or mentoring others.
Lourdes MariÌa Alvarez is the new provost and vice president for academic affairs at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. Mary L. Coffey was named provost and dean of faculty at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York, and Margaret Fitzgerald was named interim provost at North Dakota State University.
Currently, Dr. Jacobsen serves as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. In addition to her administrative positions, Dr. Jacobsen serves as the Andrews Professor of Economics at Wesleyan.
Currently, Dr. Ufomata had served as special advisor to the president and board of trustees at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York. She first joined the colleges in 2012 as provost and dean of faculty. She will become provost at St. Mary's College on June 1.
