Laurie Lachance became first woman president of Thomas College in Waterville, Maine in 2012. Under her leadership, the college has expanded its campus and increased its academic offerings.
Dr. Gelwick's research focused on the study of women's leadership roles in society and illuminated the challenges faced by women in higher education and the workforce. She directed the student counseling program at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, the University of New Hampshire, and Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.

Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, has announced the appointments of four accomplished scholars to new endowed faculty professorships. These new positions, which are fully funded by donors, will focus on the interdisciplinary study of race, racism, and racial justice and across themes of environmental justice and belonging, citizenship, and freedom.
Currently, Dr. Zaki is dean of the faculty and the John B. McCoy and John T. McCoy Professor of Psychology at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. She joined the faculty at Williams in 2002 as an assistant professor of psychology and was promoted to associate professor in 2005 and to full professor in 2010.
Judith Casselberry has been named to the Geoffrey Canada Chair in Africana Studies. Barbara Elias has been named the Sarah and James Bowdoin Associate Professor of Government and Legal Studies and Zorina Khan has been named the William D. Shipman Professor in Economics.
University of Illinois Chicago historian Barbara Ransby has been named a recipient of the Caribbean Philosophical Association’s Frantz Fanon Lifetime Achievement Award. She was selected for the award “because of the historical and political importance of her writings, her tireless work as an institution-builder and activist."
Jorunn Buckley, professor emerita of religion at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, is having her entire academic archive preserved at the Library of Congress. Dr. Buckley, who retired from the Bowdoin faculty in 2016 after 17 years, is arguably the world’s premier expert on a little-known religious sect called the Mandaeans.
Jean Yarbrough is the Gary M. Pendy Sr. Professor of Social Sciences at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. She was honored for her "understanding of, and actions taken to, preserve and foster the principles upon which the United States was built.â€
Barbara Elias, who was promoted on July 1 to associate professor of government and granted tenure at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, has received the American Political Science Association’s 2020 award for “Best International Security Book by a Non-tenured Faculty Member.â€
