Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, has instituted mandatory harassment prevention training for all faculty and staff members. The online program takes only a few minutes to complete and all faculty and staff will be required to complete the training every two years. Participants will have to pass a quiz in order to successfully complete the training program. There is a separate training track for managers and supervisors.
The training will make faculty and staff aware of behavior that is prohibited by Duke’s harassment policies and will educate those who take the training about resources available on campus for those who have experienced harassment.
“Duke is committed to engaging every employee in maintaining a respectful, inclusive working and learning environment,” said Benjamin Reese Jr., vice president for the Office for Institutional Equity. “We want people to think about their own behavior, understand that it is not okay to be a silent bystander if they see harassment and to know the resources available to them when they encounter harassment.”
