Palmetto College of the University of South Carolina has announced four finalists for the position of chancellor. Palmetto College will provide an administrative umbrella for the four two-year campuses of the University of South Carolina system and will establish an array of online bachelor’s degree programs.
The four candidates for chancellor will visit the University of South Carolina campus before the winter break for interviews and to meet students and faculty. Two of the four finalists are women.
Susan Elkins is vice president of extended programs and regional development and dean of the College of Interdisciplinary Studies at Tennessee Technological University in Cookesville. Earlier this year, she was a finalist for president of the university.
Dr. Elkins holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Tennessee Tech. She earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Vanderbilt University.
Monica J. Orozco is assistant provost for e-learning at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. She is the former director of distance learning and outreach at Auburn University in Alabama.
Dr. Orozco holds master’s and doctoral degrees in education from the University of Florida.
Update: On January 14, Dr. Elkins was named chancellor.
With more than 30 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Richtermeyer has spent the past three years as executive vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost at Rutgers University-Camden
Cheryl Norman was appointed president of Ridgewater College in Minnesota and Ellen Kennedy was named interim president of Cape Cod Community College in Massachusetts.
Dr. Scarlatta has led the University of Michigan-Dearbon on an interim basis for the past year. Pending approval from the board of regents, she is slated to become the university's permanent leader on May 22.
Nicole Reaves has been serving as executive vice president and chief programs officer at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
The selected candidate should have expertise and experience in theoretical models in labor and public economics as well as in microeconometrics and programming.
